I started with the empanada. I had the spinach and cheese and empanada which was delicious. And then I had. The Milanesa de pollo with a fried egg on top their signature mashed potatoes with their sweet special sauce. It was delicious. It was a big serving so I had enough to take home. My cousin had a steak sandwich. Also a very big portion and she ate half and took the rest home. She said it was really good and it was very tender. the service was fantastic. We started off with the first Daniel. He was taller and older than the second Daniel. The first Daniel was very attentive while I waited for my cousin to arrive. He had great recommendations and was very friendly and kind. The second Daniel was also very attentive. We felt so comfortable in the restaurant that we stayed there until they practically closed. They did not rush us out, but let us stay even after we stopped eating lol. We had a great experience. I will definitely return to take my husband and other family members. And the background music, which I forgot to mention is also very good. Very good ambience. Thank you! I will add the only con is parking. Parking may be difficult due to the location and the shopping center.
Really good food is amazing and great service Jenifer is a amazing person really nice and her service is amazing
El Gaucho was a bit of a surprise for us - we knew of the chain generally and that they went through a brand refresh in 2019, but, between the pandemic and the rush of the last two years, we hadn't had a chance to pop in. There are several locations throughout both Orange County and Los Angeles, but the stars aligned one afternoon, and we hit the one in Downey. After reviewing the menu, we opted to do their happy hour. We were quickly intrigued by the selections - it is a great way of sampling the overall menu without having to go all in. We also sat at the bar to keep things casual - it was a warm day, and we just wanted a quick sit and a few drinks to start the weekend. As of writing, the "hours of happy" are Mon through Fri 2:30p - 6:30p with a late-night option Thu, Fri, Sat from 9:30p to close. You will not be disappointed in a visit for their happy hour - the menu is fully featured with more than several items to try out. It's actually a brilliant way to have folks try El Gaucho - a gateway to the wider menu, if you will. We started off with a couple of drinks while we locked in on the menu - going for the Paloma and the Old Fashioned. Then, we went nuts. We ordered a deluge, without restraint - we got the Mussels and the Calamari Marplatense, a Short Rib Empanada, and a Shrimp Empanada. As we sipped on our cocktails and the food started to come out, we were instantly surprised to see that the portions weren't smaller than what we would have thought their entree-sized counterparts were. The Mussels and Empanadas were actually larger than we would have expected. The Calamari was the only item that seemed to fit a 'happy hour' size - all this was good. We did not suffer from not ordering entrees. Mussels were flavorful, with a delicious sauce to sop it up. The Calamari had a delicious sauce, so no dipping was required. The Empanadas were quickly cut in half and could have almost been a meal themselves. We recommend the Empanadas as a starter when you're not sure what to get - they are not typically common, and they are full of flavor. They taste almost homemade and are a good conversation starter - almost all cultures have some version of this stalwart dish. All of the items were definitely filling on their own. Yet, we wanted something just a little more, and the Costillas de Cordero (the lamb lollipops) seemed to fit the bill. Again, this was not a small dish, and we were happily surprised to see three small lamb chops, flanked by a healthy portion of rosemary polenta and mushroom sauce. It's a surprisingly dramatic dish on a happy hour menu, so impress your date - as of writing, only $18. The dish was rich and buttery. We were having such a good meal we went in for a few more drinks - this time the house Sangria - perfectly ice cold for the summer. And, feeling frisky, a round of Belvenie, neat. All in all, the El Gaucho Downey location has a modern and engaging atmosphere, solid cocktails, and great food. The parking lot is huge, but be patient - typically the front of the strip mall it's in is busy - but go around the back of the theater, and you should find adequate space. Plus, it's free - which is starting to be a must these days. Please remember to like and subscribe to all things All Streets Gourmand!
Food was amazing!! Portions were big, Steak was perfect, in overall was great, i love how they have live music, the Spanish songs and all the environment was phenomenal, I loved it, definitely coming back. Excellent customer service by William, he was attentive, and the rest of the staff were super helpful and friendly, one of my favorites restaurants from now on. Belen at the market place was so kind and friendly I got some alfajores they were delicious
Lunch is a plus at Gaucho! Tremendous service. Not overly crowded and quiet. No long wait for your food. And the prices are still adequate while other places raising prices.
it was a nice service and really good food the place quiet and calm and thanks to William really nice person
I mean it when I say there is not a single bad thing I will say about this restaurant. Like wow, it exceeded every expectation I could have had. The food is 10/10, service is 10/10, even ambience is 10/10. I would be fine just stopping by to sit at the bar too. They have indoor, outdoor, and bar seating. The sea bass was my favorite! You can ask for extra bread (which I loved) but it's an additional $4. My date asked for his steak medium rare but it was made medium well but we chose not to say anything. That's the only bad thing I can say about our experience. If you get a steak and make it gaucho style, you get more steak and an extra side. It costs extra but definitely worth it. The empanadas are great too! We both liked the shrimp ones better than the al pastor. I'm so happy I found this restaurant, it really is that good! And the prices are fair for what you get.
We are a group of 8 for a family birthday. We started off with Chipas, a pretty good cheese bread served with butter. Eat it hot as I don't feel it was as good cold. I, myself ordered a lomito sandwich, and then ordered costillas de cordero a la carte , entraña a la carte, ojo de bife a la carte, lomo argentino, y tagliatelle with chorizo. Lomito sandwich was pretty decent. It was a lot of meat for a sandwich. The costillas de cordero were amazing. They didn't have the strong lamb flavor and well done. The ojo de bife ( rib eye) was NOT a favorite, it had a bit tooo much fat than expected. The pasará was pretty delicious but the chorizo was pretty bland on its own. Ambiance: pretty upscale, they have some live music. But if you get too early they're still setting up. If you want to enjoy some music I would say it didn't really start until 1-1:30ish. Service: service was great! The serve was friendly, knowledgeable on the food / beef cuts. They started to get more people so they kind of forgot about our items ie. more bread, refilling water, napkins but typical for large parties. Overall it was okay, if you're a meat lover this is a definite spot to try!
I try not to do repeat reviews, but this one's deserved. I just love the steaks here, the meats are so delicious. I had the ribeye steak Gaucho style, perfectly seared outside and doneness to my liking inside, it was so juicy; my mouth is salivating just thinking about it. The sides are really good as well. The creamed corn and fries are my go-to. And their empanadas are excellent appetizers, but one could be a meal by itself, may end up taking valuable space in your stomach that rightfully belongs to the steak. My one and only continued annoyance is the dirty water glasses. It never fails, the tables we have gotten seated at have always had dirty glasses, visibly dirty or pieces of gunk stuck inside.
